almost near perfection...

I've been working continuously on my books. Having them progress and become a polished version of earlier versions. It's always a work in progress, and it always will be. Recently, I've really focused on getting a good solid polished off version of the vinyl record books. They have become quite a big hit locally.

I have my other books as well. Wood books, record cover books, and even steel books. I'm still working on the steel books but the other books have really worked out so far.

The sales of the vinyl books have been great this season, and I continue to plug away at them. I am a little worried that my books have become stream lined and not as random and artistic. That could go either way I think. Both ways are positive and negative and each have their own place. I just wonder if someone is going to be upset by the old versions not being there.

I have to mention that working at TS has made a world of difference in what I'm willing to try and the polished look of my books.

What do you think?

Comic ON! Opening

I am thrilled to report that the opening for Comic ON! was a smashing success. I'm so proud of the artists and thankful for such a good turn out.

Below is Patrick Dibert's illustrations. I love how much color he uses.

I apologize for the glare.. Below is Mike Nova.
Some pretty great monster men and women.

Below is Tom Hall's work. He blew everyone out of the water. So detailed and so well done.
My modest display of doodle fun.
Flynn Gleason rocked it with his series of Zombie Apawcalypse. Kitty zombies are just as scary as human zombies.

Below is Tom Hall and me. Again, it was such a good turn out and a lot of fun.

Below are details of my ongoing series "things around me"

Thanks to everyone that came out and enjoyed the opening.

The show is up till March 8th @ Actual Cafe in Oakland.

Hands and Pants cont'd.

I was able to get to The Rare Bird and check out the Hand and Pants project. The show looked great. I was surprised by the various different visions and styles each artist brought to the project.

The opening is the Thursday (2/21) from 6-9pm at The Rare Bird on Piedmont in Oakland. Come and check out the goodies in person.

Hands and Pants project with John Casey

I was invited to John Casey's hand and pants project. I was invited to participate in it last year but obligations got in the way.

Each artist is given a drawing of hands and pants to work with and are allowed to do anything they want to it. You can see his work and some of the project here: John Casey's Blog

Here is the one I created and the process.
I had the darnedest time with my spelling and dyslexia. I kept forgetting complete letters out of the words. Doh!!

Overall it was a fun and challenging project.

The show hangs tonight with the opening on February 21st at The Rare Bird in Oakland.

Comic ON! Oakland

After the success of the Oakland Under $100 show at Actual Cafe last September.. Actual Cafe has asked me to do another show. This show isn't an Oakland Under $100, it's my own show and vision. I know that I haven't been writing much these days but I just got burnt out and busy as could be with other areas of life. Well, I've been super obsessed with graphic novels and comics. I started getting into them more and more as a way to get away from the text book situation. It was a way for me to keep reading without going blind from all the words.

Here is the flyer design I did for the show:

The show features a handful of local artists that specialize in comics, graphic novels, and illustrations. It's gonna be so much fun!

Featured Artists:

Tom Hall

Flynn Gleason

Casey Fay

Mike Nova

Emily Coker

Patrick Dibert

The show runs February 8th - March 8th 2013. The opening is Friday February 8th @ Actual Cafe from 8pm-10pm

Don't miss it y'all.
