finding the anchor.

Spelunking in the ash bin... and some gardening.

I found many, many treasures..

I found a beer can from the 70's, a old thermometer, and some other crazy old stuff. I don't think it had been cleaned out since at least the 1950's.

After all that exploring.. I planted the edible garden which includes:

Tomatoes
cucumber
pumpkin
watermelon
corn
carrots
spinach
celery
lettuce
broccoli
snap peas
peppers
squash
basil
mint
rosemary

and many other things. I'm excited to see what actually pops up.

little alley ways..

I keep seeing alley ways everywhere I walk. I had forgotten that that was a prominent thing in Salt Lake. When I came across one on my first day I stopped and starred down the damp little street and took in every detail. It dawned on me how much of a actual influence the alleys have had in my art. I know this is going to sound strange.. but the telephone poles feel different here.. and some even look different.,, does that make sense in a crazy lady way?

The longer I have been here the more alleys I came upon. I took a couple of pictures to remember them.

I have always seen the mystery involved in alleys.. it's like a sub city that exists and no one talks about it. The shadows seems to be a little darker in unknown shortcuts.

I see the alleys as vital veins that inner connect us in some back road sorta way.

Poetry and analogies aside. I think each alley has a personality of its own as well as the leaning telephone poles.
I found out the reason there are so many of these alleys here is: it was for creating more space on the main streets back in the day. Garages are built behind the houses and to access them you must enter the alley. I kinda like the idea of sneaking home.. no one can see your car or no exactly when you will be there. Not all houses have this, but it's always fun to run into the places that do.

memory lane

I'm in Utah taking care of my mom right now and it has been very interesting and positive for me. It's funny how forced time off can do a person good.... or maybe it's just perspective.

When I arrived on Monday night I was greeted by a lovely blizzard. No seriously.. I couldn't even read the road signs on the freeway. I did want to see the snow this year and am thankful that I made it before it was all gone. Thanks global warming.. thanks.

This is my mom's backyard the next morning.

I'm without a car here which can be torture if you're not careful. But it really hasn't been that bad. We needed some things from the store so i decided to take a little walk and was struck with so much nostalgia. Sluffing(sluffing = dtiching) school to hang out at The Coffee Garden. How cool we all thought we were then and hanging on the "south" side of school

This picture is the "south" side of the school... away from the simenary building away from the rich kids.. the mormons. Kids that hung out on this side of the school were artists and rebels. We smoked cigarettes, hung out and wore lots of dark colors.
We were the coolest and nerdies at school.. ever.

Off topic...

As many of you may know. Utah isn't very lax with the booze. My mom wanted me to check out a new wine store in Utah. WHAT?? Utah has a huge wine only store??? SIN!

Sin? Wine?.. i couldn't help myself.

Pretty impressive right?

Things sure have changed since I was sitting on the "south" side of the school... like High School Musical being filmeed at my school (puke)

waaahoooo!!!

I just got my gift subscription to Ready Made magazine from Val

Flipping through it with my coffee this morning and I know I'm already in love. I especially liked the idea for using a old metal window cover as a pot and pan rack in the kitchen. Or the other idea of fusing grocery bags together to make a nice clutch purse. Here's to recycling and handmade goodies.

very cool.
