I keep seeing alley ways everywhere I walk. I had forgotten that that was a prominent thing in Salt Lake. When I came across one on my first day I stopped and starred down the damp little street and took in every detail. It dawned on me how much of a actual influence the alleys have had in my art. I know this is going to sound strange.. but the telephone poles feel different here.. and some even look different.,, does that make sense in a crazy lady way?
The longer I have been here the more alleys I came upon. I took a couple of pictures to remember them.
I have always seen the mystery involved in alleys.. it's like a sub city that exists and no one talks about it. The shadows seems to be a little darker in unknown shortcuts.
I see the alleys as vital veins that inner connect us in some back road sorta way.
Poetry and analogies aside. I think each alley has a personality of its own as well as the leaning telephone poles.
I found out the reason there are so many of these alleys here is: it was for creating more space on the main streets back in the day. Garages are built behind the houses and to access them you must enter the alley. I kinda like the idea of sneaking home.. no one can see your car or no exactly when you will be there. Not all houses have this, but it's always fun to run into the places that do.
